A Methodology
Action Design
The practice of intentionally creating the conditions, experiences, pathways, and systems that enable people to move from intention to action and from action to impact.
Core Principle
Action is the unit of change.
People often wait for impact before they begin. But impact is not where change starts.
Change starts with action.
Traditional approaches focus on awareness, information, or strategy. Action Design focuses on what happens next — the conditions, pathways, and experiences that make meaningful action possible.
The Framework
The Action-Momentum-Impact Framework™
Action
Action is the unit of change.
Single actions matter. They create the first step — the proof that movement is possible. Action Design focuses on making that first step clear, meaningful, and achievable.
- • Design meaningful first steps
- • Reduce barriers to participation
- • Create clarity of purpose
- • Enable diverse forms of contribution
Momentum
Momentum is the compounding force.
Repeated actions matter more than single ones. When actions are designed to reinforce each other, momentum emerges. Momentum builds confidence, participation, ownership, and collective energy.
- • Build ownership and commitment
- • Strengthen connection and community
- • Create structures that sustain action
- • Enable participation to grow over time
Impact
Impact is the outcome.
Impact rarely comes from a single intervention. It emerges when meaningful actions generate sustained momentum over time — creating lasting change at the individual, organisational, and systems level.
- • Generate measurable outcomes
- • Build individual and collective capability
- • Create lasting systemic change
Purpose → Action → Momentum → Impact
The Foundations
Action Design Principles
Action is the unit of change.
Impact is an outcome, not an activity.
Good intentions are not enough.
Small actions matter when they connect.
Action must be designed.
Participation creates ownership.
Action should create hope.
Collective action creates systemic change.
